    The manufacturing of plastic injection molds is a complex process, involving design, machining, assembly, and debugging, all the way to final operation. Throughout the entire life cycle of an injection molding mold, its quality is influenced by the following ten key factors:


    Steel for Plastic Injection Moulds


    Steel is the decisive factor in the quality of plastic injection moulds. Choosing the right steel is critical. The criteria for selecting steel include:


    Requirements of the injection molding material


    Different plastics require different steels, depending on the need for high polishability, corrosion resistance, etc.


    Surface treatment


    Surface treatment is also essential for plastic injection molds. Nitriding improves surface hardness and extends the mold's life. Electroplating modifies the steel’s surface properties and enhances corrosion resistance and gloss for specific plastic parts.


    Injection Molding Mold Structure Design


    A mature injection molding mold design must consider material properties, shrinkage, molding temperature, and the elasticity modulus. It must also account for cooling channels and mold opening/closing speeds. A well-structured plastic injection mould helps prolong mold life, ensure smooth production, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.


    Plastic Injection Mold Machining


    To do a good job, one must first sharpen one's tools. The machining process of plastic injection molds is especially critical. Proper process planning can accelerate production cycles, shorten processing time, and reduce cost. More importantly, precision machining ensures mold stability and longevity. Errors may lead to welding repairs, which—even when well done—still compromise mold integrity. Poor machining may also impair mold movement or cause cracks or breakage during operation.

Though they don't directly shape products, they govern the entire mold's operation. Good standard parts must be wear-resistant, hard, precise, and resistant to deformation. Brand differences are substantial, and excessive cost-cutting may downgrade your mold from a Mercedes to a compact car.


    Plastic Injection Mold Fitting (Bench Work)


    Mold fitting, or fly-cutting, relies heavily on the experience of mold technicians. It may appear simple but is highly technical, especially for complex plastic injection molds. Simple flat molds only need precise parting lines with no flashing or offset. However, molds for automotive components are much more intricate, often involving multiple sliders and lifters. During fitting, molders can also detect and improve other issues, making this a comprehensive and crucial step.


    Polishing and Texturing of Injection Molding Mold


    Polishing is the final stage in making an injection molding mold. It directly affects the appearance of the molded part, making it a "surface-level" job with deep impact. Polishing also assists in mold operation, particularly during ejection. Poor polishing increases resistance, which can make demolding difficult and lead to product defects such as whitening, cracks, or incomplete ejection.


    Assembly of Plastic Injection Moulds


    Assembling plastic injection moulds is like assembling a machine—every part and every screw must be perfect. Otherwise, minor issues may cause defects or delays, while major issues could destroy the mold entirely. The assembly process must be extremely meticulous. Cleanliness is especially important—remove all metal chips from water channels and screw holes to avoid future complications.
